Preset Rules: Product Weight Range
Product Weight Range allows you to automatically tag your products in your Shopify store based on its weight.
You can specify a weight range, and if a product falls within this range, it will be tagged with the specified tag. You can create multiple weight ranges, each with a different tag.
You can specify weight units for the ranges, namely, kilos (kg), grams (g), ounces (oz) and pounds (lbs).
A great example of how our users have set up their Shopify shop is to have at least three (3) weight ranges. Using a collection filter in the store them, this allows shoppers to filter products by weight.
For example, depending on the weight of the items on your store:
Weight Range | Tag |
Weights lower than 100g | Below 100g |
Weights between 100g and 500g | 100g to 500g |
Weights greater or equal to 500g | 500g and above |
Note that the above is just a recommendation, the actual weight ranges that you would create depends on your own store.
If the product gets updated and the weight are updated, the tags will be updated depending on its new weights.

Example uses
Tag product if its weight is within one of the specified ranges
In this example, we will set up four (4) weight range tag rules to organize the products in our store.
Let's say we have previously look into our store inventory and found that items in our store weigh between 89 grams and 760 grams And after some deliberation, we decided that it is best organized into the following weight ranges:
- Under 100g.
- 100g to 250g
- 250g to 500g
- 500g and above
This is really useful if you have a collection filter that is based on tags and you want your shoppers to filter collection based on the weight of the items.
- Add Product Weight Range preset.
- Set Weight Unit to grams (g).
- Optional: Set the Prefix for the tag as "weight-" so that you can tell the type of tag by its label later.
- Smart Tags app will automatically create three (3) weight as a recommendation. Since we wanted to have four (4) ranges, click on Add another range to add additional one (1) range.
- Fill in the Weight Range tag rules according to the table below.
# Label Minimum Weight Maximum Weight Notes 1. Under 100g Leave blank 100 Weights lower than 100 grams. 2. 100g to 250g 100 250 Weights equal or greater than 100g and lower than 250g. 3. 250g to 500g 250 500 Weights equal or greater than 250g and lower than 500g. 4. 500g and above 500 Leave blank Weights equal or greater than 500g. - Click Save to keep changes.

Using it lets you know the type of tag, differentiating it from other tags that the product has.
